Managing the fishery at Flaming Gorge Reservoir is a collaborative effort
Net deployment
Flaming Gorge Reservoir spans Wyoming and Utah, and the fishery is co-managed by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. The popular fishery attracts anglers in search of trophy kokanee salmon and lake trout, with anglers traveling from neighboring states to take advantage of the abundance of lake trout less than 25 inches. Recently kokanee salmon populations have not been as high as just a few years ago. *The reduction in numbers is likely due to increasing numbers of small lake trout and recent reservoir drawdowns. AIS check station
Watercraft inspection stations across the state of Wyoming have opened for the boating season and are on the lookout for aquatic invasive species (AIS). By the end of May, five watercraft containing invasive mussels were intercepted coming into the state by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. *Two of those watercraft traveled through the Interstate-90 Beulah check station.? Cheyenne angler breaks state record for tiger trout
Tiger trout record
You never know what you may be reeling in sometimes, and that was the case for angler Owen Schaad when he caught his first glimpse of the new state record tiger trout. The Cheyenne resident was spending the day visiting family and fishing on Viva Naughton Reservoir near Kemmerer as he normally does every summer. They fish there often and don?t usually catch much, so he was surprised when he caught more than 20 fish, including a few tiger trout. *Then, he landed the big one. [ [link removed] ]*
