There’s an Attack on Our Country and Our State! Take Direct Action on July 1st! |
Indeed, with the attack on affirmative action and a rejection around student loan debt forgiveness, it’s a sad day in United States History...
|
Tomorrow also marks the day in which over 10 devastating bills are going into effect throughout the State of Florida. After Florida’s brutal legislative session, Florida Rising, Florida For All and a wealth of active and courageous partners decided we would join together in resistance to pushback on the deadly policies passed, and anticipated practices that go into effect on July 1st. If you’re interested in knowing what those policies are, we’re created: “Florida Bills Effective July 1st in Plain Language”, a comprehensive document which outlines how these specific laws directly impact you. |
If you’re in Orlando, join us for “The Summer of Resistance: Freedom March & People’s Gathering”, happening tomorrow, Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 3:30 ET! It’s going to be huge! Join an estimated 1,000 educators, community members, students, advocates, stakeholders and activists from across the United States to reclaim our freedom!
|
And if you’re in Tampa, join us for “When We Resist: July 1 Speak-Out”, happening tomorrow, Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 11am to 3pm ET. Join us as we bring together the New Majority through informative panels, robust presentations and a community-centered Q&A. |
Both the Orlando and Tampa events are in-person, and an invitation for all to join. This is a multi-generational and people-centered effort. Be there, if you care!
As we know, these barbaric laws not only impact Floridians across race, gender, class and age, but they also serve as direct attacks on immigrants, the undocumented, Black people, women, transgender children, the LGBTQIA+ community, working class families, school-age children, college students and the formerly incarcerated…
As Florida’s New Majority, we decided we’re reclaiming our freedom and taking back what the ultra right-wing supermajority and #AbsenteeDeSantis attempted to steal from us. |

Change is better when you're a part of making it happen. Learn how to organize alongside friends, neighbors, and others across the state and guide the future of Florida Rising. Organizing with Black and Brown communities to win political power is at the heart of what we do, and our members own our collective work. The challenges to a just and equitable state may seem impossible to solve, and it's hard to know where to begin. But there's a way forward — and it starts by uniting on the ground and in our communities. It starts with the people closest to the problems themselves. It starts with you. Click here to become a member today! Anyone can join by contributing membership dues of $25 a year or more based on each individual's ability to pay. |

The last two decades of Alethia Jones' life are a clear depiction of how Florida’s mass incarceration system fais the residents of Florida.
While on her way to recovery, Alethia made a mistake that cost her entire life. Instead of investments in communities that prevent crime and make reentry after incarceration possible, Florida’s three strikes rule has robbed families of their support systems and shown the heartless nature of the system that we are living in. It’s time to right at least one of the 1XX wrongs of people serving life in the FL justice system for drug offenses and Free Alethia Jones. Click Here to sign her petition for clemency and learn more.

Florida Rising proudly congratulates Lynn Hurtak for winning Tampa City Council District 3. Lynn is a fierce advocate for affordable housing and has been a leading voice in fighting against the "toilet-to-tap" water reuse plan. Hurtak's commitment to addressing systemic inequalities and promoting equity for Black and Brown communities is exactly what our city needs. We are confident that with her experience and dedication, she will continue to be a strong advocate for the people of Tampa.

Florida Rising is extremely PROUD to congratulate ALL of our endorsed candidates in Jacksonville! This victory is not only a testament to the power we hold as individuals but the power we hold together!
We are incredibly proud of Jimmy Peluso in District 7, Tyrona Clark-Murray in District 9, Rahman Johnson in District 14, and Joyce Morgan as Duval Property Appraiser (the first Black woman to win this seat). We are overly-thrilled to know that their work is directly aligned with the needs and values of the communities in which they serve.
We more than are confident that their experience, dedication, and passion will serve the people of Jacksonville for good! |

Community activist Ben Frazier: 'His legacy lives on' (WJCT News - 06/27/23)
Amid chants of “Do all the good you can" and "Keep fighting," more than 150 people remembered late community activist Ben Frazier at an emotional vigil Tuesday at James Weldon Johnson Park. Among the many who spoke during the hourlong vigil was Christina Kittle, who worked side by side with Frazier at many protests and events as Florida Rising’s Duval County lead organizer. Calling him a "big force in this community" who helped her find her voice, Kittle said her best memory of Frazier was when they were invited in 2020 to speak to Mayor Lenny Curry, then-sheriff Mike Williams and State Attorney Melissa Nelson. She said she was so nervous, but Frazier calmly asked her "about their game plan." Read more here
