Good Saturday Morning. The impeachment frenzy is over and Washington has returned to some semblance of normality. The House and Senate were both in session this week, and so there’s quite a bit to recap:

Happening in Washington

• President Trump unveils his Budget Proposal on Monday. There’s a lot to like in this budget, as well as some things that could be improved upon. This budget proposal is not binding, but instructs Congress on where the President’s priorities are.
  
  On Wednesday, the House heard testimony from Acting Office of Management and Budget Director, and former Heritage Action vice president, Russ Vought. During the hearing, House Democrats reached the highest heights of hypocrisy as they knit-picked over the President’s budget while declaring that there is no need for them to draft a budget proposal of their own.
  
  When Congressional leaders say there is no need to draft a budget, is it any wonder we are $23 trillion in debt?
  
  
• Senate Confirms 5 more Judges. Under President Trump and Senate Leader McConnell, the federal judiciary is being remade—moving away from liberal, activist judges. Our friends at the Heritage Foundation have put together a useful judicial tracker tool, and you can see that Trump has had 50% more judges confirmed than Obama did at this time in his presidency.
  
  
• Senate votes on President’s war powers related to Iran. By a vote of 55 - 45, the Senate passed a resolution from Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va.) to restrict the President’s ability to exercise his war powers against Iran. Most senators voting in support were inappropriately using this resolution as an opportunity to “score points” against the President—this sends Iran a dangerous signal that the United States is not serious about protecting its interests in the Middle East at a time of increasing hostility.
  
  
• House makes unconstitutional push for Equal Rights Amendment. By a vote of 232 - 183, the House voted to extend the 1982 deadline to pass the ERA. On the legality of the vote, even Justice Ginsburg has said the deadline can't be legally extended. And on the policy, the ERA would put an end to women’s-only spaces (shelters, bathrooms, sports, scholarships, etc), and enable taxpayer-funded abortion.

New Conservative Legislation

Conservative legislators continue to introduce bills to address real problems and improve the lives of Americans:

• Stop Greenlighting Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants Act: Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Representative Ken Buck (R-Col.) introduced this bill to penalize states that issue drivers licenses to illegal aliens. We should not be rewarding lawlessness by giving a legal document to illegal immigrants that enables them to register to vote and apply for taxpayer-funded, governmental benefits.
• Accelerate Long-term Investment Growth Now (ALIGN) Act: 2017’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has helped create a booming economy. A key expensing provision of that law is set to expire in 2022, but Senator Toomey’s (R-Penn.) ALIGN Act would make it permanent, benefitting workers and small businesses.
