Project Update:
Keeping Wild Rivers Wild

A ranging rafting on a river.

Sunshine rafting on the Flathead River

With the help of generous donors and a match from the Flathead National Forest and Flathead Rivers Alliance, the Glacier Conservancy co-sponsors a Big Sky Watershed Corps internship to support the river system.

We spoke with the 2023 intern, Sunshine Flamer, about her work educating river users, collecting data, and defending wild rivers.

Take Me To The River

"People understand you’re helping the river, but not why. This position stood out to me because a big objective of the Flathead Rivers Alliance (FRA) is to help harness the ‘power of why’ in fostering an environment of self-teaching and pride in river stewardship among diverse river users."

- Sunshine Flamer, 2023 Flathead Wild and Scenic River Intern

Blackfeet Nation Releases Wild, Free-Roaming Bison After 150 Year Absence

Years of work culminated this week with the release of 25 wild bison in the Chief Mountain area of the Blackfeet Nation. The Blackfeet-led effort to reintroduce wild bison, called the Iiinnii Initiative, is supported in part by Glacier Conservancy donors.

Your support allows us to fund Blackfeet Range Rider Guardians to protect the cultural and natural resources of the range, as well as to fund surveys to monitor the effect of bison on grasslands and elk populations.
