# [#]John,

In a moment, I’m going to ask you to donate a few dollars to my campaign. I know your inbox is probably inundated with similar requests this week, but I hope you’ll keep reading to understand why this Friday’s deadline is so important.

Now, if you’ve been on our team for a while, you know that I don’t ask for donations very often. I try to provide supporters like you with substantive updates on my work in Congress and at home, to harness our collective power for the most urgent issues we face.

My Democratic colleagues and I have been tirelessly working to implement the historic laws we passed last year and deliver even more progress on everything from clean energy to infrastructure, affordable health care, and more – but at every turn, Team Extreme and their narrow GOP House majority are desperately trying to derail our efforts, or obstruct progress altogether.

Last month’s near-miss on the debt ceiling crisis is a prime example of this recklessness. Republicans pushed our country to the brink of default, and we were left with a “deal” that accomplished very little debt or deficit reduction, further burdens already-struggling Americans with cuts to social services, and significantly rolls back environmental protections that once held fossil fuel companies accountable.

After “succeeding” with their unprecedented strategy of extorting policy concessions under threat of a debt default, Republicans are now gearing up to do it again – threatening a government shutdown later this year unless Democrats concede to even more of their extreme demands.

John, I believe it’s important as a lawmaker to strive to find common ground whenever possible to get things done – but I refuse to compromise our core values or yield to extremism, obstruction and political extortion. Once these scorched-earth tactics are normalized, there’s no end to it.

You can count on me to push back against Team Extreme’s reckless agenda and their endless attempts to obstruct, threaten and bully their way to policy outcomes that the American people do not support. Right now, with Republicans holding a narrow majority in the House, our work is mainly defensive as we fight to keep them from unraveling the progress we made in the last Congress. But in just sixteen months we’ll have a chance to reclaim the House majority and get back on offense, delivering even more bold, transformative wins for our country.

That’s what next year’s elections all about, and it’s why this Friday’s FEC deadline is so important, John. Our fundraising totals will be publicly reported for everyone to see, so we must have a strong showing to prove that grassroots activists, progressives, and Americans everywhere are ready to defeat extremism. Can I count on your contribution in this major test of our strength? [[link removed]]

Thanks for taking the time to read this message, John. Your support really does make an impact.

Onward,
Jared
