This overview training is designed to acquaint local leaders with the roles and responsibilities of elected officers and provide general information and resources needed to begin the process of building a strong and effective local. Legal, fiduciary, and reporting requirements are discussed, as are planning and budgeting.
July 14 – Union Leadership: Leading with Our Values– new course! 3:00pm-5:00pm Eastern
This workshop is designed for local leaders who want to pursue a values-based approach to local leadership. This online workshop will give leaders an opportunity to reflect on the personal values that shape their vision of what it means to be a leader.
July 19 – Union Leadership: Thinking Strategically – new course! 3:00pm-5:00pm Eastern
This course is designed for local leaders to improve their knowledge and skills in thinking more strategically about the overarching goals for their local. Strategic leadership is critical in fast-paced, ever-changing environments like local unions. This workshop provides frameworks for leaders to use in preparation of implementing plans that include both long-term and short-term goals for the local.
July 27 – Union Leadership: Communicating Effectively – new course! 3:00pm-5:00pm Eastern
This course is designed for local leaders to improve their knowledge and skills in communicating as a leader. Communication is the key building block to a strong foundation for leadership. In this course, local leaders will be able to identify opportunities to grow in their ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders of their local.
July 27 and 28 – Workers’ Compensation: Basic *This date has been rescheduled from earlier in July due to Joe Mansour’s appeals hearing schedule. 9:00am-3:00pm Eastern
This 2-day introductory training by Workers’ Compensation expert Joe Mansour covers the 5 essential elements of filing a workers’ comp claim for federal workers, the requirements of Publication CA-810, navigating the ECOMP system, and associated timelines. Actual cases are also reviewed. Updated COVID 19 requirements will be discussed. Participants must attend both days.
