Yesterday was a difficult day. We all feel betrayed by the affirmative action decisions handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court, striking down the race-conscious admissions programs at Harvard and UNC.

Let us focus on the fact that while anti-civil rights operatives may have won yesterday, they won't win in the end. This moment is crucial to push policymakers, universities, and others in positions of power to ensure the progress we’ve made with affirmative action is not lost.

Our racial solidarity must become stronger than ever against those who are trying to take us backwards when our communities were segregated, incarcerated, and excluded from being fully realized members of our society, democracy, and corridors of power.

Let us focus on our unified advocacy to ensure further attacks against our communities are unsuccessful because they are met with resistance at every turn and let us continue to build the multi-racial college campuses and the America we all deserve.

We will not accept anything less.

In the days and weeks to follow you will be asked about your reaction to this decision, asked to explain the support for/opposition to affirmative action within the Asian American community, and asked about what happens next.

To that end, we are providing updated messages, social media, and FAQs for you to use and share with your networks in spreading an understanding of what this decision means to our communities.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. The organizations involved in the litigation, and many others, will be analyzing the full legal scope of the opinion and we will issue more comprehensive guidance as more full analysis occurs.

In the coming days, the Asian Americans Advancing Justice affiliation will plan to host a webinar with our partners to discuss more about the decisions and their implications. Please watch your email for more information soon.

Together, we will rise above and continue our work to advance racial justice for all of our communities.

Thank you for your efforts and valued partnership.
