Taiwan Trade Center Opens in Texas

I was pleased to participate in the opening of the Taiwan Trade Center. This Center marks an emerging era in which Texas is embraced as a global manufacturing and technology leader. As a conservative supporting free trade policies, I am determined to ensure the Lone Star State is well-placed to maximize opportunities to engage in international business. This Center is founded on a culture of innovation and success, and will provide Texans with ample opportunity.

ImageBy promoting policies to reduce burdensome regulation in our free enterprise system, our nations will be able to cultivate mutually beneficial business relationships with Taiwan and other ally nations. The Taiwan Trade Center will create sustained opportunities for new jobs and expansive development. A cornerstone of Texas’ economic success is our ethos of entrepreneurialism, and this center will serve as a hub to advance those free market principles across the world. The Taiwan Trade Center fits in well with the robust and growth-oriented environment business environment in Texas.

Cameron Texas Rotary Club Address

On Wednesday morning, I joined members of the Cameron Texas Rotary Club to discuss critical issues that have arisen in Washington DC. Throughout our conversation, I addressed the importance of holding the Department of Justice (DOJ) accountable for the mishandling the investigation into alleged criminal activity by President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. The delay and diminish campaign employed by the DOJ to obfuscate the investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax fraud is plain evidence of the political double standard present in our justice system for those in power. Another critical step towards ensuring transparency and accountability occurred when two Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblowers came forward to the House Ways and Means Committee. The whistleblowers’ allegations raise serious concerns about conflicts of interest, management of sensitive cases, and interaction between the IRS and the DOJ. Specifically, the whistleblowers indicated that the DOJ interfered in the IRS investigation of Hunter Biden’s tax evasion. This disclosure coincides with fellow Republican members and my work on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee to subpoena and hold the FBI and DOJ accountable regarding their investigation of possible illegal activity by the Biden family. We must consider appropriate legislative action to balance the scales of justice within these organizations.

ImageAdditionally, I shared about recent House action to address surges of illegal immigration at our Texas southern border. Passage of H.R. 2 – the Secure the Border Act – by the House of Representatives intends to eradicate the unacceptable “catch and release” of undocumented immigrants into the U.S. while they indefinitely await a hearing. This bill represents a significant step toward preserving national security and restoring the rule of law on our southern border. I urge the Senate to consider the Secure the Border Act without delay. Demanding that the Department of Homeland Security appropriately secure and defend Texas and our southern border is a major priority of mine as the senior Texan on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee.

Congressional Veterans Commendation

The 17th Congressional District of Texas is fortunate to have a substantial and involved veteran community. After fulfilling their responsibilities in the armed services, many veterans return home to be pillars of our community, through their continued dedication to service and sacrifice. Their engagement and stewardship exerts a lasting positive influence on friends, family, and loved ones.

In recognition of their invaluable contributions, I am requesting nominations for the Congressional Veterans Commendation (CVC). The CVC is a unique distinction that honors those who have courageously served our nation, during both war and peacetime. This year, I will confer the commendations to the chosen awardees at a special ceremony.

Please note that nominees should have received an honorable discharge from a branch of the United States Armed Forces and must have served either as active-duty personnel or as a reservist called to duty. The deadline for submissions is July 14th, 2023. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to hear about deserving veterans in the 17th District.
