Dear John,
It's been a truly historic week. As you know, the Supreme Court struck down race based admissions - a major victory for students across the country. I've worked for decades to ensure fairness and equality in higher education, and today, we're closer than ever before.
I've also been fighting back against Sacramento's out of control tax addiction and working to hold the CCP accountable for their human rights abuses.
Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to get these updates in real-time.

Victory for Equality in Education |
|
Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court released their decision in the consolidated cases of Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. (SFFA) v. Harvard and University of North Carolina, striking down the use of affirmative action in the admissions of federally funded universities.
I immigrated to this country from Korea when I was 19-years-old to pursue an education. I am living my American Dream because, in this country, your actions determine your success- not your race and ethnicity. For 40 years, American colleges and universities have stacked the deck against Asian Americans in the name of diversity.
As a nation, we believe, as taught by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., that every human should be judged "not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.’ I wrote an editorial explaining why - thanks to the brave young men and women who spoke up about their experiences with racial discrimination - today’s victory marks a new chapter in the fight for equality in education.

I was honored to participate in a memorial ceremony commemorating the 73rd Anniversary of the Korean War and to see so many of our veterans.
Our veterans are heroes, l and they will always have the thanks of a grateful nation.

Another Sacramento Tax Hike |
|
Sacramento Democrats just can’t stop their never-ending tax addiction, voting for higher gas taxes once again.
Today, I joined the entire California Republican congressional delegation in a sending a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom opposing the impending gas tax increase of 8% on July 1, 2023.
Our letter, highlights the already high cost of living in California and the potential for gas tax increases to contribute to the troubling trend of people leaving the state in droves.

It was great to participate in the grand opening of the Korea-Seongnam Business Center in Fullerton. I am eager to see how the K-SBC will improve life for our Korean neighbors and I look forward to continuing to partner with all of you in that effort.

Calling All STEM Students |
|
Registration for the 2023 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is now open! The CAC is a great way for middle and high school students from across the country to explore and improve their computer-based skills by creating original apps.
This competition encourages computer science and innovation skills and offers an opportunity for students to explore potential careers in the STEM field. The competition is hosted by the Congressional Internet Caucus.
Each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year and will be featured on the House of Representatives website. Winning students are also invited to the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C. |

Stopping CCP Genocide |
Rep. Steel meets with survivors of the CCP's genocide against the Uyghurs.
|
In the past few months, I have met with several survivors of the CCP’s internment camps that torture and enslave minorities, including Uyghurs, and have heard firsthand about the horrors experienced at the hands of the CCP.
That's why Rep. Neal Dunn, M.D. (R-FL) and I sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken calling for immediate action to prevent those who participate in the Chinese Communist Party’s forced organ harvesting industry from earning immigration status in the United States and ensure that prior offenders have not already immigrated.
We must do whatever we can to prevent the organ harvesting industry. I look forward to hearing from Secretary Blinken about the steps he is taking to prevent these human rights atrocities from continuing.
