"What a difference five years makes." That is how Justice Sonya Sotomayor began her dissent in today's landmark Supreme Court decision which chips away at anti-discrimination protections for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
That decision came right on the heels of yesterday's ruling that colleges and universities could no longer consider race when it comes to admission decisions. And all of this comes just a year after the Supreme Court took away a woman's right to make her own healthcare and reproductive decisions by overturning Roe v. Wade.
It feels like decades of social progress are being rolled back right in front of our eyes because that is exactly what is happening. The question is, what are we going to do about it?

Let me assure you, this fight isn't over. There are many battles ahead. What is still to come is anyone's guess. With the conservative majority on the Supreme Court my opponent, Scott Perry, and his extremist allies in the Freedom Caucus are only going to become more emboldened.
What rights could be at risk? We don't want to find out, and we don't have to.

Five years from now we can all be sitting back and saying "what a difference five years makes" because we stood up and elected leaders, like me, who want to expand more rights and freedoms to all Americans OR we can be remembering days like today as the good old days.
