Friend — I’m sure you’ve seen that this morning, the stolen, extremist Supreme Court majority handed down two devastating decisions for the future of civil rights, equality, and economic justice in our country.

In one decision, SCOTUS struck down President Joe Biden’s student debt cancellation plan, saddling billions in debt back on families and workers. In another, it trampled over anti-discrimination laws in order to allow a business to legally discriminate against LGBTQ+ customers.

And this comes just one day after the Court struck down Affirmative Action and made it more difficult for students of color to achieve their educational dreams.

We can make a long list of the outrageous, extremist, and downright cruel decisions made by this court since Donald Trump’s 6-3 majority took place. Striking down Roe v. Wade would be the first.

But the reality is that Congress is the only real check we have on the overreaching power of the Supreme Court beyond replacing retiring justices. Congress has the ability to correct this course — but only if we have the courage to act.

We must pass legislation to expand the Supreme Court and return legitimacy and balance back to the institution. We must hold this court accountable for any alleged misconduct with every tool available. And if we can’t get the 60 votes we need in the Senate, then we must abolish the filibuster and finally end the tyranny of the minority over the majority of Americans.

My campaign has been building a progressive movement that proudly fights for these solutions, because we understand that civil rights have only been won throughout our nation’s history when an overwhelming grassroots movement makes their voice heard and puts pressure on our leaders.

If you want to make a contribution to our cause today, you can use this link or click below. If you can’t make a contribution today, that’s okay. We have a long road ahead to securing justice for all, and we’re going to need everybody’s help if we’re going to win.

We don’t have to be spectators to the stripping of our rights. We have the power to take action and continue the path of progress in our nation.

In solidarity,

Ed Markey
