Taxpayer, our investigators just discovered NIAID payout #5R01TW010500 is up for renewal. If our government approves additional taxpayer funding, 16 more abandoned pet dogs may die. We've launched an emergency campaign to block this payout and save the Iowa 16. Taxpayer,
My name is Alex Bales, and I’m the Membership & Marketing Assistant at White Coat Waste Project (WCW). I’m writing to you for a few reasons, the most important being to thank you for your unwavering advocacy and support.
Secondly, I wanted to introduce myself and share how I got involved with WCW.
As a child, my family began fostering a 14-year-old Border Collie named Belle, taking her on camping trips or staying at home with us for short periods. Belle lived under a neighbor's trailer in our community and largely existed daily with little attention or time off a rope leash.
Belle became our beloved companion, and the “foster” periods lasted longer and longer until her owner indicated he wanted to put her down to save money on her food. We were horrified and committed to keeping what we thought was an ailing, very deserving dog.
She ended up living seven more years, finally passing at the age of 21.
We later found out Belle’s long life had been full of difficulties. As a puppy, a previous owner left her in a barn alone. As she grew, her body expanded around her collar, nearly strangling her. By the time she was found, the collar had to be surgically removed.
When I was 11, this story profoundly impacted me, realizing the vulnerable position speechless animals could find themselves in the wrong hands.
In college, I began reading about these issues more intensely, realizing government was the proverbial “elephant in the room” many overlooked when it came to cruel and wasteful spending on animal testing.
Did you know that nearly 50% (!) of the National Institute for Health's (NIH) annual budget is devoted to experiments on animals?
That figure is astounding to me. Barbaric and unnecessary experimentation on animals (including dogs and cats) is engrained in institutional “science” — and entrenched in our government.
I fulfilled my dream by joining the WCW team. Here is an organization that shares my values, a government watchdog for both taxpayers and our animal friends.
And I’m writing you today because there is a highly urgent deadline approaching at midnight tonight.
Abandoned pet dogs. EATEN ALIVE by carnivorous insects. Then slaughtered and dissected – when they could be adopted out to loving homes instead.
EMERGENCY MIDNIGHT DEADLINE: Taxpayer, at midnight tonight, the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Disease (NIAID) is likely to try and ram through more funding for this cruel experiment, which has been taking place at a taxpayer-funded lab at the University of Iowa since 2016.
If they succeed, 16 more abandoned pet dogs could be tortured and killed, most of which are in their senior years.
I can’t help but imagine my sweet, elderly Belle. All alone in a steel cage. Shaking in fear as she awaits a cruel death.
That’s why WCW’s emergency campaign to save the Iowa 16 feels especially personal to me and why I felt compelled to reach out to you myself.
Taxpayer, I know it’s a tough economy right now. But if you can afford to donate $16 (just $1 per dog), our team can run a rapid response campaign to block payout #5R01TW010500 and save the Iowa 16.
Taxpayer, I promise this will be the most rewarding $16 you will ever spend.
To stop taxpayer-funded experiments on animals, we must first stop wasteful government spending. This strategy is the key to WCW’s effectiveness.
From exposing and closing Fauci’s beagle experiments, to ending all painful dog testing at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, to closing the largest federal cat lab, I am thrilled to be a part of the team that has exposed and ended more wasteful government animal experiments than any other group.
And we are working around the clock to give the same treatment to NIAID’s horrific sand fly experiments and save the Iowa 16, but we can’t do it without your help.
With urgency,
Alex Bales Marketing & Membership Assistant White Coat Waste Project |
