As a young single mom, I relied on public assistance to get by.

But I refused to give up on my dream of attending college and winning a better life for my kids and myself. It wasn't easy – I couldn't afford child care back then so I often had to bring my kids with me to my classes. But I was able to graduate, get a master's degree and give my children the better life they so deserved.

So when I saw that the Supreme Court struck down President Biden's student debt forgiveness plan today – I felt it in my bones.

I understand firsthand what it means to struggle financially while trying to provide a better life for your family. I know what it means to worry about keeping the lights on and food in your children's bellies.

That's why for years I've fought day and night for progressive legislation to cancel student loan debt, raise the minimum wage and tax the billionaire 1%.

That's the thing about me, John: You can always count on me to work hard and to deliver results for those who need it most. But I'm running in what experts are saying could be one of the most competitive Senate primaries in history – and I'm up against a steep fundraising disadvantage.
