We must make sexuality education truly inclusive

Hi John,
Today marks the end of LGBTQ+ Pride Month in some parts of the world. All month we’ve been focused on how LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive rights are inextricably linked: Essentially, they’re both about bodily autonomy.

At Ipas, we work to ensure equitable access to reproductive health care. And we know that people who identify as LGBTQ+ have a harder time accessing the care and information they need—especially young people. That’s why I’m proud to share a new report I helped author from Ipas and Political Research Associates: From invisible to indispensable ([link removed]) .

We found that bisexual and pansexual young people worldwide are not getting the information they need from sexuality education programs. Their identities are often completely erased in curricula and classroom discussions. This is inequity, pure and simple. Everybody deserves access to accurate information to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.

I invite you to explore this beautiful report and check out the important recommendations for how we can all help ensure sexuality education that is fully inclusive.

There’s also this short Q&A ([link removed]) with me and my fellow researcher Heron Greenesmith in which we talk about why our research matters right now. And if you’ve got time to watch this conversation between sexuality education experts ([link removed]) around the world sharing perspectives on the report’s findings, it’s a great wayhttps://www.ipas.org/our-work/sexuality-education-that-includes-abortion/from-invisible-to-indispensable/ to spend an hour.

In solidarity,

Paige
