Responding to the latest Climate Change Committee Progress Report, Caroline Lucas told Sky News: "We're going backwards more than we are forwards. This government's dangerous dither and delay has driven a coach and horses through the UK's previous reputation as a global climate leader."
|
There has been a huge outpouring of love and support for Caroline Lucas who announced earlier this month that she would not be standing in the next general election. Her announcement made national headlines with commentators praising her remarkable track record as the country’s sole Green MP.
Members and supporters have also been keen too to express their gratitude on social media and our website. “Your voice has been worth more than that of a hundred other MPs,” read one message. “You are a true inspiration to us all, and have paved the way for a whole new cohort of Greens in Parliament”.
You can watch a video of Caroline’s highlights in parliament, as well as read more tributes here.

The countdown to the next general election is on following the publication of new constituency boundaries! The new boundaries - the first changes to the electoral map since 2010 - will see the number of seats in England increase by 10 to 543 while Wales will lose eight of its current 40 seats. The changes, due to come into effect in the autumn, mean the party’s target candidates know the make up of their constituencies for the forthcoming general election.
We're now perhaps just a few tens of weeks away from the next General Election writes Chris Williams, Head of Elections. To secure several Green MPs in the next Parliament, we are targeting to maximise the number of wins we can make - in our key constituencies of Brighton Pavilion and the new very Green Bristol Central constituency, Waveney Valley and North Herefordshire. To win means both growing our resources - both people and funds - and prioritising those resources, as much as we'd like to campaign in many more. We'll be calling on your help more than ever before. If you would like further updates on any of our constituencies, please sign up to their mailing lists and do support our fundraising campaign if you can.
Winning seats in parliament is hard and requires strengthening our teams in target constituencies, as well as party HQ, so we can compete with the other major parties. Can you make a one-off or recurring donation to help get more Green MPs elected?

✅Brighton Pavilion The selection process for a parliamentary candidate is underway with the result expected in mid-July. Caroline Lucas first won the seat in 2010 with a majority of 1,252, and increased it in subsequent general elections, with voters returning her to the House of Commons in 2019 with a majority of over 20,000. Caroline will be working hard with her successor to mobilise supporters to elect the city’s next Green MP. Sign up to get involved with the campaign here.
✅Ellie Chowns – North Herefordshire Former MEP Ellie Chowns is our candidate in North Herefordshire. The rural constituency is represented by a longstanding Tory MP but support for the Green Party has surged recently. Greens ran the Council between 2019 and 2023 as part of a coalition, when Ellie was Cabinet lead for the environment and economy, and the party gained three councillors in May’s local elections. Ellie has taken a sabbatical from lecturing in Birmingham University to focus full-time on her campaign. Sign up to get involved with the campaign here.
✅Carla Denyer – Bristol Central Co-leader Carla Denyer is standing in the new constituency of Bristol Central. Carla came second when she stood in Bristol West in the 2019 general election almost doubling the party’s previous voter share. The boundary changes have boosted her chances of election this time as the new smaller constituency is predominantly represented by Green councillors. The Green party is now the largest on Bristol city council with 25 councillors. Sign up to get involved with the campaign here.
✅Adrian Ramsay – Waveney Valley Co-leader Adrian Ramsay is standing in Waveney Valley, another new constituency straddling Suffolk and Norfolk. Once considered Tory heartland, the Green Party has been steadily growing support in the area over the past decade and made a historic breakthrough in May, securing majority control of mid Suffolk council, taking some high profile Tory seats in the process. It was a remarkable triumph and bodes well for a political earthquake at national level. Sign up to get involved with the campaign here.
