BEYOND "RAINBOW CAPITALISM: SUSTAINED SUPPORT CREATES REAL CHANGE FOR THE TRANS COMMUNITY"

State legislatures are advancing a record number of anti-LGBTQ+ bills including “parents’ rights” bills that aim to suppress transgendered people’s right to gender-affirming care, inclusive education, and freedom of expression. That’s why Tides’ Corporate Social Impact team is calling on corporations to shift beyond “rainbow capitalism,” which focuses on seeking profit and goodwill for public actions during Pride Month, and instead provide sustained giving to youth and BIPOC members of the trans community beyond Pride.

After years of threats to his life from his own government, Arsham Parsi fled his home country of Iran. Today, as the founder and executive director of the International Railroad for Queer Refugees, the first Iranian LGBTQ+ organization in the world, Parsi works to help other LGBTQ+ refugees escape persecution in the Middle East. // Protecting Voting Rights Requires Diligence and Action at the State Level

In June, the U.S. Supreme Court defended the Voting Rights Act by ruling that a congressional map in Alabama had in fact diluted Black voting power in the state. Although the ruling is a step in the right direction, Beth Huang, Tides Foundation’s program officer for civic engagement and democracy, makes a case for why it is important for us to remain diligent if we want voting rights to thrive in the next decade.
