I know my team and I have been in touch quite a bit lately, but I assure you we only do it because it’s absolutely necessary as we approach a crucial fundraising deadline. Tonight at midnight , we’ll report our second quarter fundraising numbers to the FEC – making them public for all to see.

With the stakes so high, I wouldn’t be doing right by my team or our supporters if I didn’t send one last email to try and meet this critical fundraising goal. Doing so would send a strong message that our grassroots support is stronger than ever.

As we head into summer, the weather isn’t the only thing heating up – so is our re-election campaign. We’ve seen the GOP ramp up their attacks against me, and we’ve had a new Republican opponent enter the race in IL-17.

And I should add: Our fundraising goals aren’t random -- they’re the minimum amount we need in order to educate and engage the voters who will turn out and keep this competitive district blue.
