Our First In-Person State Committee Meeting was held June
10, 2023. The future of the
Green Party of New York was discussed and an Eco-Action Committee was
approved. The GPNY Eco-Action Committee will complement national work
on climate and take action around state-level legislation and
campaigns. Mark Dunlea is spearheading this committee. To learn more,
contact him at [email protected]. During the afternoon session of the
meeting, Marco DaCosta gave a talk and slideshow about Greens in Power
in Brazil, and presented some ideas that could be used by Greens in
the U.S.
Global Greens Congress Report From Howie
Hawkins: I attended the
Global Greens Congress in Incheon, South Korea, June 8-11. It was
worth the trip to exchange views and experiences with many of the 700
participants from around the world, particularly in person with Greens
from countries like Australia and Papua New Guinea I had been
communicating with only through email and WhatsApp. The highlight for
me was participating with the leftwing Justice and Progressive parties
in a news conference and a demonstration against the dumping of
radioactive wastewater from the damaged Fukushima nuclear plants. The
Global Greens Congress adopted a resolution against the dumping. Read

Green Party of Brooklyn tabled at the recent Park Slope 7th
Heaven Street Fair. It was
one of the Green Party of Brooklyn’s first community events since
Covid, and people seemed enthusiastic when they heard about the Green
Party platform of peace, non-violence, social and economic justice and
environmental sustainability. Among those working at the table were
Rebecca White and Gloria Mattera. You can see short video clips of
them at the event (taken by Craig Seeman) on the GPNY Instagram
page.
Ballot Access Lawsuit Update: Having exhausted all of our appeals in our
lawsuit against the Board of Elections regarding ballot access, GPNY
along with the Libertarians have appealed our case to the U.S. Supreme
Court. We are awaiting word as to whether they will hear our
appeal.
We have a new Electoral Reform Working Group working on Ballot Access Legislation,
Ranked Choice Voting and Proportional Representation. Contact Howie
Hawkins at [email protected] if you would like to volunteer to work on
these issues.
