Dear Friends,

Pennsylvania has been approved to issue Summer 2023 P-EBT benefits to eligible K-12 students. These benefits will help families cover the cost of school meals that their eligible children miss out on during the summer months.

All eligible kids will receive benefits in a single payment of $120 to be issued July 31-August 11, 2023. This payment will cover the entire summer, and is lower than it was in previous years due to a change in federal legislation.

Eligible K-12 Kids:

To be eligible for this benefit, a child must:

  • Have been enrolled in an in-person K-12 school as of May 2023 AND
  • Have been enrolled in Free or Reduced-Price School Meals by June 30, 2023.

The state will try to issue a child’s P-EBT benefit to an active SNAP EBT card or the P-EBT card where the child received a 2021-2022 P-EBT payment. If the state cannot match a child to an active SNAP EBT card or a P-EBT card from last year, they will mail a new P-EBT card for each child in the household.

Free Summer Meals For Kids & Teens

Summer can be a challenging time for families who rely on free and reduced-cost school meals for their kids. We know that hunger doesn't take a summer break, which is why we work to connect families to free summer meals for kids 18 and younger. We do this by:

  • Providing a dedicated Summer Meals Hotline (215-770-4659). Open Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm and on Friday from 9am-4pm.
  • Updating a Summer Meals Map weekly. There are currently over 600 locations available in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery County.

Help us spread the word about our Summer Meals Hotline and Summer Meals Map to ensure kids across the Philadelphia region can access free meal sites in their neighborhood. Download our Summer Meals toolkit to learn more and help spread the word!

SNAP Hotline

SNAP Emergency Allotments (extra SNAP) ended in February and food prices in Philadelphia increased 13.63% last year (2.21% more than the average U.S. city). This combination has made it even more difficult for families experiencing food insecurity. We've been hearing from more and more clients that their SNAP benefits just aren't enough.

On our SNAP Hotline, we do more than SNAP applications and renewals. We also advocate for clients who have been wrongly denied benefits or believe they are getting the incorrect amount, and we connect people to local food pantries and soup kitchens.

Lately, we've been getting more and more requests to be connected to food pantries and soup kitchens. If you or anyone you know in Philadelphia, Bucks or Chester County could use assistance with any of the above, our SNAP Hotline is here to help! Give us a call Monday -Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-4pm at 215-430-0556 or visit our food pantry map.
