This last January was the hottest January in the history of our planet. The last five years were the hottest five years in the history of our planet.
Last year, the world watched as millions of acres of forest burned in Australia. It's been estimated that one billion animals died in those bushfires. Meanwhile, sea levels are rising, tropical storms are intensifying and extreme weather events are only becoming more frequent and destructive.
Climate change is not a problem we can put off until tomorrow--it's a global crisis that we can't ignore.
That's why I introduced legislation with 33 other Senate cosponsors that would ensure our country reduces greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by no later than 2050.
