Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn   My friend, Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn... HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL After passing the largest spending cut in history, it's critically important for Congress to ensure tangible savings are passed directly on to taxpayers. That's why I introduced the Tax Cuts for Working Families Act, which was passed by the Ways & Means Committee, that increases the standard deduction for middle-class families, makes filing taxes easier, and allows them to hold onto more of their hard-earned money at a time when Americans are paying more for just about everything. READ MORE New York's 11th Congressional District is home to a vibrant and thriving Indian-American community. It was a pleasure to welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Capitol this month for a Joint Meeting of Congress and I look forward to watching our country's strategic relationship grow, particularly in the areas of technology, defense, and finance. In a bipartisan vote, Congress condemned New York City Mayor Eric Adams for housing migrants in New York City schools. It should have NEVER been done. Instead of misinterpreting the Right To Shelter law, he should tell the President of the United States to secure our border and Schumer to pass the Republican Party's border security bill! WATCH MY FLOOR SPEECH HERE IN THE DISTRICT I was proud to be named Citizen of the Year by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) Honor Legion, the oldest Fraternal Organization in the NYPD. One of my top priorities in Congress has been working to ensure our police have the tools, resources, and support they need to be protected on the job and keep our communities safe. Over the last two years, I've been the only Member of Congress from New York City to earmark funding for the NYPD, which has gone toward everything from new forensic equipment and protective gear, expanding the NYPD's K9 unit, to new patrol vehicles and plate reader systems to combat rising car thefts. I believe it's incredibly important for elected officials to show support for our law enforcement, particularly at a time when attacks against police are at record highs. It's an honor to be recognized by our men and women in blue and I will continue to be a voice for their needs in Congress. I was pleased to announce Bath Beach, Brooklyn resident Anastasia Kril, who attends Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, has won the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for New York's 11th Congressional District. Kril's piece entitled 'Blossoming into Adulthood,' will be displayed in the Capitol for one year alongside the winners from each Congressional District. READ MORE READ MORE Our veterans have fought and sacrificed so much for our nation and they deserve high-quality health care. The Department of Veterans Affairs has been making significant investments and improvements into our Brooklyn VA Medical Center, ensuring that it will be used by future generations of veterans for years to come. We welcome our veterans, particularly new veterans not as familiar with these resources, to take advantage of our local VA facilities that are best equipped with the specialized care and services to address their individual needs. In 2021, Governor Kathy Hochul and MTA Chairman Janno Lieber said fare hikes and service cuts were "off the table." Now, the MTA (with Hochul's support) is flipping the script and looking for higher tolls and fare hikes on top of implementing their $23 congestion fee. I recently testified at a public hearing and told the MTA that it's time to stop treating commuters like bottomless ATMs! WATCH IN THE NEWS Empire Center for Public Policy: Messages of Necessity - Episode 16 In this episode, Tim Hoefer interviews Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) about her role on the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. WATCH Malliotakis: Biden Too Soft on China; U.S. Must Start Decoupling Now Whether it’s giving Communist China a pass on the spy balloons, being silent on it’s Cuban spy base 90 miles from our shores or helping them economically by circumventing tariffs, Biden has been anything but tough on China. The more time passes, the more it seems he’s compromised.
