Two years ago today, our nation's heart broke – yet again – as we watched students flee Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Before that tragic day was over, Congressional Republicans were urging our nation to do nothing in response, and vowing to lead the effort to get nothing done.
They've kept their promise. In the two years since that day in Parkland, Florida, Republicans in the Senate have done nothing to make our schools and communities safer.
No vote. No action. No debate. Nothing.
The NRA has Mitch McConnell and his followers in the palm of their hands. So much so that they are not just afraid to solve the problem, they're afraid to talk about solving the problem. And so, they do nothing.
Today, we reject nothing. And we stand with those who have done something.
We stand with the Parkland students who marched for their lives.
We stand with Moms Demand Action who fight not just for their kids but for every kid.
We stand with the communities whose gun epidemics don't make headlines, who face daily violence on their streets and in their schools.
We stand with every single family who has lost a loved one to gun violence in this country.
It's past time we ban assault weapons. Enact red flag laws. Conduct gun violence prevention research. Invest in suicide prevention and mental health. And hold gun manufacturers accountable for the hell they cause.
No more nothing. We need action.
