Friend --
Between the presidential race and all of Attorney General Barr's antics, there's a lot grabbing the headlines in Washington these days.
But there is one issue that we can't lose sight of: Trump just released his latest budget proposal and it's a complete disaster.
It cuts Medicare and Social Security -- hard-earned benefits that thousands of people in the Central Valley rely on. No surprises there. But it also makes a $180 billion cut to the SNAP program.
In my district, 24% of households utilize SNAP to keep food on the table. That's one of the highest rates of use in California and in the nation.
I look forward to going on record and voting against this cruel budget. But I can't help but be reminded that if we hadn't defeated David Valadao in 2018, he would have voted lockstep with Trump on this budget and against the needs of Central Valley families.
It's a reminder of how important our upcoming election is for our community, and why it's so crucial that we elect representatives willing to stand up to Trump and put working families in our community first.
Thank you for standing by my side,
