NCRC Laments Supreme Court Affirmative Action Ruling That Condemns Black America To Further Neglect

Given the enormity of the pain, neglect and targeted hardship that the US government and private businesses have inflicted on Black Americans for hundreds of years, the handful of formal efforts our country makes to even the odds for people of color have always been paltry. NCRC To Host Regional Summit For Mountain West Community Development Leaders

NCRC will host a regional summit in Denver September 26 – 27, 2023. The summit will bring together housing and community development leaders; faith-based organizations and fair lending advocates; financial institutions and environmental justice groups; as well as small business entrepreneurs, tribal leaders, public officials and academics to discuss and discover ways to reinvest in communities across The Mountain West Region: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Indian Country. Our comments voice our support for robust, structural reforms to more effectively safeguard against discrimination and to affirmatively promote equity throughout our federal housing finance system. The systemization and codification of such reforms is much needed to provide clarity for the GSEs, lenders, and stakeholders including consumer and fair housing groups as to the extent of the GSEs’ fair housing and fair lending obligations. What Is Happening In The Housing Market?

Mortgage rates are now hovering around 7 percent — the highest they’ve been since 2007 — thanks to the Federal Reserve’s efforts to tame inflation. The Fed’s rate increases are aimed at slowing America’s economy — in part by restraining the housing market — to try to bring inflation under control. Housing markets across the United States pulled back notably last year. But that cool-down seems to be cracking. Home prices fell nationally in late 2022, but they have begun to rebound in recent months. [Read more ([link removed] ) ]
EPA Closes Civil Rights Investigation Into Louisiana Pollution

The [Louisiana] attorney general has asked federal judges in the Western District of Louisiana to block the investigation of Louisiana, saying the Civil Rights Act of 1964 does not, as the EPA claims, give it the power to take action against policies that discriminate by creating a “disparate impact,” such as heavier pollution in Black neighborhoods compared with others.
