Crumbling Alliances: How Outdated Bilaterals Undermine Switzerland's Growth Prospects

The breakdown of the framework agreement with Europe in 2021 has left Switzerland facing tough challenges. As new European laws affecting machinery exports loom, the effects are felt nationwide, particularly in Ticino and Jura, where machinery exports contribute to over 20% of total exports. Forced to seek alternative solutions, some businesses consider establishing production capacity within the EU single market, impacting Switzerland's growth potential and overall prosperity. Avenir Suisse sheds light on the problem, revealing the risks of outdated bilateral agreements.  ​​​​​​
