This year, 'Walk on the Wild Side' is going to be bigger and better than ever! Taking place throughout August to celebrate World Lion Day (10 August) and World Elephant Day (12 August), this year we’re giving you the chance to choose whether you want to join Team Lion or Team Elephant for our family-friendly walking fundraiser!
TEAM LION
Did you know, just 20,000 lions remain living in the wild? That's a 90% decline in 55 years.
But, in Kenya, lion numbers are up 25% to over 2,500 since 2010, the year Born Free's work began there. Conservation works! So, together, let's continue to secure a future for lions.
If you want to join Team Lion and prowl for lions, you just need to walk or run 20,000 steps, to honour the world's 20,000 wild lions, and raise funds to save them from extinction.
Every penny you raise will go towards Born Free's conservation work to protect this magnificent species.

TEAM ELEPHANT
This year, Walk on the Wild Side is remembering Pole Pole the elephant. Caught from the wild in Kenya, this young elephant's shocking death at London Zoo - 40 years ago this October - led to the start of our charity.
Today, there are still 49 elephants held in UK zoos. Let's walk in solidarity with these captive individuals, raise funds for an Elephant-Free-UK, and celebrate elephants in the wild. If you want to join Team Elephant and amble for elephants this year, you have a choice of three challenges:
Ellie Amble: a family-friendly 3 milesTusker Hike: a challenging 10 milesTrunk Trek: an endurance 15 miles
