First , we told you about the emergency brewing in Somalia — where aid is being cut due to a lack of funding, while the Horn of Africa nation plummets toward famine after record-breaking droughts.

Now , more are speaking out about the dire hunger emergency that could soon impact one-third of the population, including 380,983 pregnant women.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recently visited Somalia “to ring the alarm” and appeal for “massive international support.”

"We're not out of the woods with regards to famine. We were able to keep it at bay last year. But we need to apply more, do more here to help keep famine at bay,” said Cindy McCain after a recent trip to Somalia.

She urged donors to help once again bring Somalia, “back from the abyss of famine,” like in 2022, when private donors stepped up as humanitarian organizations faced shrinking budgets and a lack of funding.

The clock is ticking as Somalia’s longest drought forces pregnant women and more vulnerable women and girls to flee their homes. Donate now to deliver lifesaving care in Somalia and where it’s needed most around the world. [[link removed]]

Gifts from donors have helped reach 30,467 women and girls with sexual and reproductive health services, and distribute 1,200 dignity kits across Somalia.

UNFPA is now supporting 69 Emergency Obstetric Care facilities, 16 facilities providing support for victims of gender-based violence, and 5 mobile clinics reaching tens of thousands of women and girls with lifesaving care thanks to generous donations.

But as famine looms in Somalia, a lack of aid is threatening essential services. With millions of lives at stake, this is NOT the time to be scaling back.

Immediate, sustained gifts are needed to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Somalia.
