John, yesterday the House passed a bipartisan measure to advance the Equal Rights Amendment. This would guarantee women equality under the Constitution in employment, marriage law, property law, and so much more.

Outrageously, David Schweikert voted "no" -- the latest example of him siding against policies that lift up women. AZ-06 needs a leader who will fight for equality for all. Unlike Schweikert, I am committed to that fight.

My conversation with my daughters the day after the 2016 election inspired me to run for office. I knew we had to take on the fundamental inequalities that women still face in society, specifically a lack of representation in leadership. We must have informed voices in the room when policies are being debated, especially those policies that might adversely affect women.

David Schweikert's failed record on women's issues goes well beyond yesterday's vote.

He's opposed legislative efforts to close the gender pay gap. He's voted to defund Planned Parenthood. Last month, he called on the Supreme Court to "revisit" Roe v. Wade. And he's repeatedly voted to cut affordable healthcare access -- I can tell you as an emergency room physician that women would bear the greatest burden from this.

Under Schweikert's positions, women would be paid less, struggle to access life-saving care and medicine, and lose the freedom to make their own reproductive choices.

That's not the America I want for my daughters -- and it's not the America that folks here in the 6th District want. They want opportunity for all. And they want leaders who will practice those values.
