Friends,
On this date two years ago, our nation was rocked when a gunman killed 17 students and staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Like many people across the country, I was horrified by the violence in Parkland. And I was angry that nobody seemed to be doing anything to prevent gun violence.
In 2018, I ran for Congress because I was sick and tired of watching and waiting around for someone to do something to protect our children and families from gun violence. And I’m proud to say that I’ve kept the promises I ran on and I’ve already helped pass multiple bi-partisan bills to make our country safer.
However, we still have a lot of work to do. A year ago, I joined with other Representatives -- Democrats and Republicans -- to strengthen universal background check legislation. Mitch McConnell still hasn’t brought that bill up for a vote in the Senate.
Friends, I promise you that I will never stop fighting to keep our communities safe from senseless acts of violence. I hope I can count on you to keep standing with me.
Sincerely,
Susan Wild
