There can no longer be any doubt that No Labels is facing a partisan political conspiracy.
Hi Friend,
There can no longer be any doubt that No Labels—and all those who back our mission to give Americans a bigger say in choosing their leaders—is facing a partisan political conspiracy.
Not after the news we learned last night: The left-wing advocacy group MoveOn sent a letter to every single secretary of state in America calling on them to “investigate the work and practices of No Labels’ staff and canvassers” and claiming we’re “potentially misleading voters.”
This is an unprecedented and underhanded effort to prevent Americans from having more choice. And it’s outrageous.
MoveOn – and the other partisan groups it’s working with – wrap themselves in high-minded rhetoric about protecting democracy. But their tactics are ripped right out of the pages of a voter suppression playbook.
Let’s be very clear about what’s happening here. In each state, secretaries of state have the solemn responsibility to supervise ballot access impartially and to safeguard the constitutional right of all Americans to free and fair elections.
Our democracy doesn’t work unless voters trust that these officials are thoroughly and completely nonpartisan. Yet MoveOn wants to rope them into a political hit job on No Labels. It wants them to “investigate” No Labels, despite the fact that not only have we done nothing wrong. We haven’t even started gathering signatures in many states.
When you see someone complain about things that haven’t even happened, you know what’s going on.
Since No Labels started gathering signatures in states early last year, our practices and those of our vendors have been completely above board and supervised by attorneys and other election law experts.
But behold the anatomy of the conspiracy to undermine a competitor:
-
First, partisans invent baseless charges about No Labels’ ballot operations in Arizona and Maine, trying to tie us up in a lawsuit in one, and disrupting our work in the other.
- Next, 40 Democratic operatives and leaders convene in Washington, DC, with the declared and explicit goal to “subvert” No Labels’ work.
- Finally, MoveOn writes this letter, recklessly slinging charges its partisan allies invented in Maine and Arizona as “evidence” of wrongdoing – to “implore” secretaries of state to crack down on the competition.
The cynicism and hypocrisy of this are breathtaking. Even worse, we know this MoveOn gambit is just one part of a bigger conspiracy, funded by millions in anonymous contributions from dark money groups.
They’re not going to stop because they know that No Labels is offering Americans a way out of the endless tribal war that’s consuming our politics—and which this is a perfect example of.
This war is so bad for the country, but it’s very good for the partisan and special interests who can fundraise and gain power and influence by getting Americans to hate and fear one another.
This is what we’re up against, which is why it’s so important for the No Labels community to stick together and remember that we are indeed the voice for America’s commonsense majority.
And we’re going to make absolutely sure this majority has a voice in 2024.
If you support the movement of the commonsense majority please chip in $20 to No Labels 2024 today and help us hit our end-of-quarter goal! ([link removed] )
