Dear Neighbors,

It?s hard to believe July is just around the corner! Summer has gotten off to a quick start (as it always seems), and I hope you?ve been able to enjoy it between air quality alerts. Minnesota Public Radio recently put out a great article with 16 fun indoor activities [ [link removed] ] you can check out if you?ve been stuck indoors.?

This Saturday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. Rep. Bierman, Sen. Maye Quade and I will be hosting a post-session town hall meeting in Apple Valley at Scott Highlands Middle School (14011 Pilot Knob Road). We?ll provide a brief legislative update from the Capitol and then go to questions. Your input is important and I hope you can join us ahead of the 4th of July holiday.?

I'll also be hosting a few summer meet and greets 'John in the Park' events?for constituents to share their questions and input about the 2023 session. Attendees are invited to share a donation at the event for neighbors in need. Here are the dates; more details to come for Eagan:

*New Laws & Funding for Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Eagan*

Many laws we passed in the legislature this session take effect on July 1, 2023. These include investments from our major budget bills along with countless other provisions. *PUBLIC SAFETY*

On July 1st, new laws and investments take effect as a result of the legislation we passed this session. New funding in our budget includes Public Safety Aid for our communities; Apple Valley is receiving $2,464,493, and Eagan is receiving $3,023,224 for public safety. Dakota County is receiving more than $26 million in total county aid.

*EDUCATION*

The state?s new, transformational K-12 education investments closes the gaps of the special education and English language learner cross-subsidies, delivers increased mental health services and universal meals for students. In total, the budget provides more than $51 million for Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan ISD #196 schools over the next two years.

*LOCAL INVESTMENTS & INFRASTRUCTURE *

Separate from the state budget, one of the final bills passed during the legislative session was a $2.6 billion Capital Investment bill, delivering one-time funds to shovel-ready projects throughout the state. In the south metro, the Rosemount Readiness Center will receive more than $24 million for construction improvements, while the bill included more than $18 million for the Minnesota Zoo.

Statewide investments I carried this year include $92 million for the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus chemistry undergraduate teaching lab, a $5 million investment for recruiting more police officers, $2.2 to construct a roundabout on Highway 3 at its intersection with 142nd Street West in Rosemount, funding for Emergency Medical Services training in high schools, investments in body armor for police, fire and EMS professionals, and obtaining the land to build a new public safety facility in Rosemount.
