Polluted stormwater – runoff that pushes motor oil, metals, pesticides, fertilizer, pet waste, and other toxics into rivers, lakes, and Puget Sound – is one of the greatest threats to water quality today. We’re applying the principles of Executive Constantine’s Clean Water Healthy Habitat initiative, working with regional partners to produce better results faster for people, salmon, and orcas.

Green Globe Awards

Eleven individuals and organizations from across King County were honored by Executive Dow Constantine and the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks with a 2023 Green Globe Award [ [link removed] ] for outstanding work to protect and restore the environment, and contributing to a more resilient, sustainable, more equitable King County. 

This year’s 11 award winners include a company that carefully deconstructs buildings to put lumber back into the economy, an organization whose highly efficient approach to building tiny homes for people experiencing homelessness minimizes waste, a collective that improves the health of Black communities by strengthening the local food economy, and a pioneering land conservation advocate who helped protect 120,000 acres of open space.

Look inside this giant new tunnel that will improve water quality in Seattle’s Ship Canal

Mudhoney

The famed “MudHoney” drill, Seattle’s latest celebrity boring machine, has finished its 100-foot-deep tunnel-boring job. It broke through its destination at a shaft in Wallingford on June 15 at 10:18 a.m., completing a 2.7-mile journey from Ballard along the Lake Washington Ship Canal. The work took 21 months at a pace of about 50-feet a day.
