Thrilling news. AB464, our bill to make driver’s licenses free for the unhoused in California and to make vital records free for all low income Californians passed the state senate yesterday unanimously!
This is huge news, especially because a new report was just released showing that homelessness increased in Los Angeles by 10% in the last year. Ten percent! That number is astounding, and it is why we must focus on homelessness prevention as much as on getting people off of the streets. Before this report, 230 people were becoming unhoused in Los Angeles every day. That number is surely higher now. And we know that this is a trend that we are seeing across the country. That is why we are focused on legislation across the country that will ensure that people have the vital documents and IDs they need to get- and keep- their homes.
We need your support to make this happen. We are working on legislation across the country, working with local governments on better policies, and advising organizations and candidates who are working on increasing access to IDs in their communities. We love this work, but we need your help to keep it up.
This is a problem that we can solve, and that we are solving. Let’s keep it up.
