Jambo, Kimba, LouLou, Lucky, and Missy are five female elephants who were born in the wild in Africa, taken from their herds when they were only babies, and imported to the US in the 1970s and 1980s to be held captive in circuses and zoos. Now imprisoned in the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado, these extraordinarily cognitively complex beings have been stripped of all control over their lives.
Today we filed a lawsuit that is the first of its kind in Colorado, demanding the elephants’ right to liberty.
Read their stories here [[link removed]] , and show your support for their right to liberty by adding your name to their petition:

Sadly and unjustly, these elephants’ lives have consisted of one trauma after another. This trauma is evident in the stereotypic behavior they’ve all exhibited–for example rocking, swaying, and head-bobbing–as well as their many captivity-related illnesses . With this lawsuit, the Colorado courts have the power to right the legal wrong of the elephants’ imprisonment and allow the elephants to regain their freedom, peace, and dignity.
Our legal fight to #FreeTheCMZElephants is our first lawsuit in Colorado, our second in the American West, and the latest expansion of our work to end elephant imprisonment everywhere.
Thank you so much for your support.
