BREAKING: Supreme Court strikes down college affirmative action programs
John, my family and I have been shut out from opportunities for generations because of the color of our skin.
When my parents were growing up, they couldn't even drink from the same water fountain as their white peers. And as a teenager, I had to work with the NAACP just to earn my spot as my high school's first Black cheerleader.
Our country has come so far, but people of color continue to face unfair barriers due to systemic racism – in every sector from employment to housing to education. So I won't sugar coat it, John: Today our movement for progress took a major step backward with the Supreme Court ruling to effectively end affirmative action.
This decision will have a disastrous impact on millions of young people of color, who face significant barriers to accessing higher education in a country that shut out non-white students for generations.
It's painfully clear that the ultraconservative members of the Court are hell-bent on preventing us from building a more equal, free country. But I refuse to give up hope: I've spent my entire life fighting to advance racial justice, and if I'm elected to the U.S. Senate I will continue to push our country forward.
I have the passion, track record and experience required to lead a movement for progress in the Senate – but I need your support to get there. I'm trailing in the polls and my opponents are out-raising me, so I have to ask: Will you chip in $5 today before my fundraising numbers go public to help me win this race and continue fighting for racial equality?

This fight isn’t over yet, and in the words of Justice Sonia Sotomayor in her dissenting opinion, "We shall overcome." Because I refuse to give up hope, [firstname]: I've spent my entire life fighting to advance racial justice, and if I'm elected to the U.S. Senate I will continue to push our country forward.
Together we'll overcome those who stand in opposition to racial equity. Thanks for supporting my movement for progress.
