John,
Sometimes I think about how improbable it is that a person like me could even be running for Congress. After all, I’m the son of a nurse and a small business owner.
Because of hard work, the support of my family and community, and access to scholarships that allowed me to get a high-quality education, I have been able to serve my state and country at the highest levels of government, for two presidents and a governor.
But I’m not rich, and campaigns are expensive. I’m from a hard-working background. I’ve spent my career in public service, so I can’t self-finance this campaign. Like so many others, I’ve still got student loans to pay.
At the end of the day, I’m just like most Rhode Islanders. I care about my community, and I love my home state.
I’m running for office to send someone to the halls of the U.S. Congress who understands Rhode Island and understands how to get things done for the people here from day one.
So, I need your help. Tomorrow is the LAST day of the fundraising quarter. We’re up against opponents who have lots of their own money, and we can’t do this without you. Can I count on you to help us reach our fundraising goal and show that you don’t have to be wealthy to run for office – and win?
