It was one of the most significant blows to environmental laws ever.

The Supreme Court's Sackett v. EPA ruling immediately eliminated federal protections for millions of acres of wetlands. The harm this decision will cause is incalculable.

And it's a painful reminder about how critical our work is to elect environmental champions to Congress.

While the talented team of lawyers at the NRDC win time and again against polluters and developers, once the Supreme Court rules, their path to holding polluters accountable in court becomes far more difficult.

Wetlands provide critical habitat for countless species, including many that are endangered or threatened. Wetlands clean pollutants from water, help control erosion, absorb floodwaters, and lock away climate-wrecking carbon.

And now, many wetlands will be destroyed, filled, or developed unless we strengthen the laws that protect them.

That's why the NRDC Action Fund exists: to build the political power we need in Congress so that stronger environmental laws get passed and fair judges get confirmed to enforce those laws.
