Dear John,

Thank you for your continued support and for reading my monthly e-newsletter.

Over the last month, I’ve been working hard helping to sort your issues, speaking to local people and businesses about the cost-of-living crisis, and representing the Borders in the UK Parliament.

I’m fully focused on the day job of delivering better public services for my constituents.

Summer Surgery Tour

This summer, I am again holding my annual summer advice surgery tour of the Borders and am available to speak to you at over 80 venues.

A full list of dates, locations, and how to make an appointment can be found  here

I am always here to help if you have a problem with local roads, can’t get easy access to the NHS or any other issue you may have.

The SNP are at it again

Unfortunately, the SNP are not focused on delivering for you. They are once again distracted by their obsession with another independence referendum.

Just last weekend, Humza Yousaf said that the next General Election will be fought on the issue of independence and that every seat won by the SNP will count towards a mandate for independence.

He says the SNP will immediately try to start breaking away from the UK if they win a majority of votes.

Humza Yousaf is pushing Nicola Sturgeon’s referendum plan - but on steroids.

The SNP are distracted when they should be focused on creating jobs, rebuilding our NHS and improving schools.

Every vote for the Scottish Conservatives is a vote to beat the SNP, stop their obsession with independence, and focus instead on the big challenges facing the Scottish Borders.

Borders attracts business

It is encouraging that so many innovative businesses are choosing to set up operations in the Borders.

I recently visited the IndiNature facility in Jedburgh. It's a great example of the new green jobs and businesses that the Borders can attract.

It was fascinating to see their state-of-the-art facilities and the climate-friendly work they do on cleantech and biotech up close.

I'm delighted that such an exciting business is bringing more skilled jobs to the Borders.

Bank of Scotland closures

However, it has been a disappointing month in one respect. The Bank of Scotland announced it is to close four branches in Duns, Eyemouth, Jedburgh and Newcastleton.

I met with Bank of Scotland officials on Tuesday afternoon to voice strong opposition to their plans.

People in the Borders need access to local bank services in-person.

I will continue to demand that they reverse this decision and pressure the bank to treat Borders customers better.
