Friend, two years ago, the South Florida community - and all of America - was shocked by the horrifying act of gun violence in Parkland. We lost seventeen beautiful lives in the deadliest high school shooting in US history.

I have met many parents who lost a child that day, a loss I can't imagine.

While my husband Robert and I reflect on Valentine’s Day - our love for each other and our children - our hearts are heavy with the memories of those who are no longer with us:

When I ran for Congress, I made this community a promise that I would not stop fighting until we enact common sense gun safety reforms. As someone who lost her father to gun violence, I have never, ever forgotten that promise.

To all of the students, parents, and young activists who have turned this unspeakable tragedy into action: thank you. And I stand with you, as a survivor, to honor those we lost by working to prevent others from suffering the same tragedy.
