Hi John ,

I watched my mom raise four kids as a single mother in Virginia Beach. I saw how she cared for her mother in her final months before my grandmother died of breast cancer at age 49. She worked multiple jobs to keep us afloat. And she did it all with unparalleled strength.

I remember my mother taking my grandfather across the water to the V.A. Hospital in Hampton. My grandfather was a tough man – a U.S. Army veteran. He taught me three things that have stuck with me every day of my life: Keep God first, Work for everything that you want, and Your word is your bond.

After playing in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers, I came back to Virginia Beach, the city that raised me, and I started Rouse’s House, a nonprofit to support our youth in their pursuit of a good public education. In 2018, I was elected to serve on the Virginia Beach City Council, where I’ve fought every day to improve the livelihoods of everyone in our city. This January, in my special election, I won my State Senate race with record support throughout the district. I went to Richmond the next day to fight for Virginia Beach families.

Now, I’m running for re-election to the Virginia Senate in the 22nd District in Virginia Beach. This district is a priority for keeping our Democratic majority and protecting the progress we have made in Richmond together.

Everything from criminal justice reform, to protections for workers and a living wage, affordable health care for every Virginian, and a path to clean, sustainable energy across Virginia are on the line at this moment. Since Glenn Youngkin became Governor, our Democratic majority has been the only firewall against his attacks on our progress.

We’re building this campaign together – just like we did with our historic campaign to flip a Senate seat that had been held by Republicans for more than 25 years. If I learned one thing from playing Safety for the Virginia Tech Hokies and Green Bay Packers, it’s that you are only as successful as the team around you.

Tomorrow is our first fundraising deadline – will you be one of the founding donors to our campaign? Whether it’s $5, $25, $50, or whatever you are able, please chip into our Virginia Beach Victory Fund today →

Very Respectfully,

Senator Aaron Rouse
Democratic Nominee for District 22
