John,

I’ve lived the struggles that everyday Americans face. I’ve been a single
parent living paycheck to paycheck. I know what it’s like to be unhoused
living in my car with my two babies. I know what it’s like to be evicted.
I know what it’s like to forgo seeking care because I didn’t have health
insurance.

My lived experiences drive my fierce urgency in Congress for the
transformational change that our communities deserve. The people are with
us, but too many in power are satisfied with the status quo.

That’s why I’m grateful for Justice Democrats, which helped our campaign
make history when we overcame an out-of-touch and entrenched political
dynasty. I was the first candidate endorsed back in 2017, and since then
Justice Democrats has provided necessary campaign infrastructure and
support to help several of us overcome the odds.

While protesting in the streets for over a year in the Ferguson Uprising,
I had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life in my
community. Until then, I had been primarily focused on survival. But by
coming together in solidarity, we got to know one another’s pain and we
got to imagine what a future of collective liberation could look like.

Across the country, a huge people-powered movement is expanding what’s
possible in the Democratic Party and our federal government. We have a
vision of America that works for all of us, that treats every person with
respect, and that recognizes housing and health care as a human right.

Too many of us have been let down by our elected officials, but there are
bold progressive leaders everywhere who can be incredible public servants
if given the opportunities to run for office and win.
