Hi John, Ben here.

I’m the new Finance Director for Courier Newsroom, which means I’m
responsible for pulling together the resources we need to support all 8 of
our newsrooms. And I couldn’t be more excited to join Courier’s fight
against misinformation in battleground states across the country!

Right now, we’re still running about $11,000 short of our end-of-quarter
goal, so we need help if we’re going to get there by tomorrow night’s
deadline.

Courier Newsroom operates in ‘news deserts’ that lack other reliable
sources of fact-based reporting on local issues. Our journalists pick up
the national media’s slack and call out misinformation for what it is –
and we don’t hide any of our content behind paywalls.

Instead, we count on the generous support of grassroots donors like you to
help power our work. So here’s what closing this $11,000 gap means:

* It means expanding the reach of our stories, all while keeping them
free.
* It means hiring more journalists to chase important leads.
* And it means opening more newsrooms in more states.

If that isn’t enough to convince you, I’ll also let you in on a secret
I’ve learned as Finance Director: Less than 1% of the people who receive
this email will actually make a contribution. So if you think our goal
will be met by someone else, think again!
