Hi folks, Minnesota Senator Tina Smith here. Let’s be honest: it shouldn’t be that hard to tell me apart from my good friend Tammy Baldwin. But it happens more often than you might think!
More than once, reporters or staffers have mixed us up in the halls of the Senate. Just recently, I was followed around by someone asking me “gotcha” questions — someone we call a “tracker.”
That’s right: GOP campaigns or national Republican organizations will often hire someone to trail a candidate around as they talk to voters. They try to take misleading videos of us to attack our campaigns.
Well, this “tracker” was asking me questions that made it clear he was mixing up me and fellow Midwesterner, Tammy. Honestly, I thought the whole thing was pretty funny. And while I knew better than to answer his ridiculous questions with a camera in my face, here’s what I’ll say about Tammy’s record:
She has fought tirelessly for affordable healthcare, LGBTQ+ rights, veterans, working families, and so much more. She is deeply committed to making life better for every Wisconsinite — and I’m proud to serve alongside her in the Senate.
But Tammy is in for a tough reelection campaign — if Republican operatives already have someone trailing her (or me, in this case), that means they’re going to throw so many misleading ads her way in no time. Experts have named Tammy as one of 2024’s most vulnerable Senators, so I’m reaching out to ask:
Can you chip in to Tammy’s campaign so she can keep up the progress for Wisconsin? We need her voice in the Senate, but she can’t win without grassroots support.

And hey, if you ever mistake me for Tammy, don’t worry, I won’t hold it against you! Thanks so much for your support.
