Dear John,

This month, I’m struck by the words of Brad Montague: “A joyful rebellion is you living differently not because you're mad at how things are but because you are swelling with joy at the thought of how things could be.” I see joyful rebellions all around us.

It’s Pride month, and while states across the country are passing anti-trans legislature, the LGBTQ+ community came together for a celebration of how far we’ve come, and how far we’ll go. Last week marked the one-year anniversary of the devastating Roe v. Wade decision, and while abortion access has decreased, every day I’m seeing organizers and volunteers and philanthropists across the United States reimagine a world where true reproductive justice and freedom exists. Joy is an essential part of every movement, and joy is particularly apparent this month.

Here at the Ms. Foundation, we have lots going on! Our President and CEO Teresa C. Younger has been busy, being featured in podcasts and articles that you can listen to and read below. I was also proud to be included as one of Go Magazine's 100 Women We Love! In August, we’ll head to Martha’s Vineyard for our annual Ms. on Martha’s event. We’re also excited to release our 2022 Annual Report, which shares highlights of our work, our year, and the incredible group of supporters and partners in our network. Read more below!

In solidarity,

Ruth McFarlane
Chief Advancement Officer

Ms. Foundation in the News

President and CEO Teresa C. Younger was a guest on two podcasts this month. She joined host Elisa Parker on the ERA Coalition Equality Talks podcast to discuss the Ms. Foundation’s 50th anniversary, her listening tour, and creating the future we deserve. On the MomsRising Breaking Through podcast, Teresa discussed the past, present, and future of the organization.

Did you know we recently moved into a new office space? The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership profiled our organization for their Make it in Brooklyn series, highlighting our work and presence in Brooklyn.

Go Magazine featured Chief Advancement Officer Ruth McFarlane as one of their 100 Women We Love.

It's been one year since Roe was overturned - and abortion bans continue to disproportionately affect Black maternal health. We were proud to be highlighted by Truthout alongside movement partners as an organization in the fight for reproductive justice.

This year marks the Ms. Foundation’s 50th Anniversary and we’re looking forward to celebrating this milestone with you on island. President and CEO Teresa C. Younger will be in conversation with Jocelyn Frye, President of the National Partnership for Women & Families and Fatima Goss Graves, President & CEO of the National Women's Law Center.

You won’t want to miss this opportunity to connect with us and our friends of the movement for gender and racial equity. The event is free, register now!

Pregnant Workers Fairness Act

This month, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act went into effect! This groundbreaking new national law is one of the biggest wins for women in the workplace in decades. It provides workers the right to receive reasonable accommodations for pregnancy, childbirth recovery, lactation, and related medical conditions. It will make it easier for millions of people to keep their jobs and livelihoods while also protecting their health, in a monumental victory for gender, racial, and economic justice. Learn more from our friends at A Better Balance.
