Hey there,

It’s Ann Mei Chang, from the Innovation Team here at Pete for America where we look at the numbers behind this race. I just wanted to stop by to give you an update on our position to date. Before we dive deep into what we’ve learned, will you click here to help us sustain our momentum heading into Nevada, South Carolina, and the Super Tuesday states? [[link removed]]

The Democratic nominee will be determined at the Democratic National Convention in July by one measure - delegates accumulated. After the first two contests -- the Iowa Caucuses and the New Hampshire primary -- we’re in the lead in terms of pledged delegates.

Let’s dig into how the nomination works. The rules say that the candidate who earns the majority of delegates wins the nomination, regardless of the popular vote. This is not unlike how electors determine the President in the general election. As each state rewards delegates differently, understanding the nuances of each state’s contest and system is a part of our strategy.

After our performance in Iowa, we were awarded 14 delegates, and after New Hampshire, we were awarded 9 delegates which brings our total to 23. As of now, we’re leading the field by two delegates. Next up are Nevada and South Carolina where 36 and 54 delegates are up for grabs respectively. And then it’s on to Super Tuesday where more than a third of the delegates will be awarded (that’s more than 1,300 delegates across 14 states all in one day!).

Will you help our team keep up its momentum so we can reach voters everywhere? [[link removed]]

We’re still an underdog campaign, which means we need help from supporters like you.

Right now we’re winning, but this race is incredibly tight and incredibly unpredictable. Because of our success in the Iowa Caucuses and New Hampshire primary, voters across the country are paying attention to Pete.

The next 18 days are the most pivotal time for our campaign and we need to seize the moment. We’re focused on putting Pete in front of as many voters as possible during this 18-day crunch. We’ve seen that when folks see and hear Pete, they like him -- but it also means reaching and persuading voters is more important now than ever.

That means we have 18 days to convince as many voters as possible, not just in Nevada, South Carolina, and the Super Tuesday states -- but all across the country -- because the stakes will never be higher.

We know how to win. While we may wish that elections were decided based on a different set of rules, the rules today are based on delegates and electors. What will be necessary to win the nomination is the same thing that will be necessary to beat Trump -- building a broad coalition that appeals to voters across the spectrum. [[link removed]]

We have shown we can do this. We’ve won in rural, urban, and suburban areas filled with Democrats, Independents, and Republicans alike. And we will continue to win with your help.

Thank you,

Ann Mei and the Analytics Team
