Dear John,
A new study published by the Fraser Institute today finds that business investment per worker has declined in Canada since 2014.
Why does this matter?
Because business investment is a key driver of income gains and living standards for workers. It includes spending on equipment, machinery, factories and new technologies, and is vital to helping make Canadian workers more productive.
From 2014 to 2021 (the latest year of available data), business investment per worker in Canada declined by 20%.
Compared to the United States, Canada performed even worse: during that same time period, business investment per worker in the U.S. increased by 15%.
See the provincial breakdown here, and be sure to share this news with your friends and colleagues.
Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
President
The Fraser Institute
