Hey John — I know you’ve been getting a lot of emails from me ahead of our FEC deadline at midnight Friday. I want to try something different, and ask for you to make a small monthly donation. After this explanation, I hope you will understand why.
Because I don’t accept corporate PAC money, and in response to MAGA Republicans’ censure of me last week as political retribution for holding their leader Donald Trump accountable, it is no exaggeration to say that my ability to respond to their attacks depends in large part on whether you donate to emails like this one.
And in a few days, our campaign will announce how much we have raised these past three months in a public report filed with the Federal Election Commission.
The political pundits in the media, as well as Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell’s dark money allies, will see our FEC campaign finance report as a direct reflection on whether we can respond when MAGA Republicans throw a punch, and whether grassroots Democrats like you are willing to punch back.
We can’t stand still when they go on the political attack. Fail to respond. Or tolerate their acts of vengeance. They are wrong. And they are dangerous.
And if one thing has become clear in the last 6 months, they aren’t stopping. They are only going to get worse.
So, while our FEC deadline is 2 days from now, I’m writing to you about these next 16 months, and what will happen on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Because while McCarthy, Trump, and their MAGA cronies in Congress throw every attack at me to see what sticks, we’ll need the resources not only to respond, but to build the biggest grassroots campaign that California has ever seen. So we can take this righteous fight for our democracy to the United States Senate.
