Friend,

Two years ago, I stood on the floor of the Senate and grieved. I said then:

"Again, the scourge of gun violence visited an American school, a place where our kids should be able to learn free from the shadow of violence and mayhem.

Again, we all watched the scenes of children running for their lives.

Again, a twisted soul got ahold of an assault rifle and unleashed carnage on the innocent.

And even though we didn't see it, in millions of bedrooms and living rooms in Americans' homes that night, and too many nights since, 10-year old, 8-year old, 12-year old children were saying 'Mom, dad, what happened? What do I do if this happens in my school?'"

Too many tragedies have happened before the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, two years ago, and too many have happened since. 100 people die every day from gun violence, and there's simply too much anguish to honor here. But we don't have to honor their memories with anguish alone -- we can honor them with action.

I'm taking on "ghost guns" -- guns made from various gun parts, purchased online, creating a firearm without a serial number that makes it almost impossible to trace. We're seeing more of them used in crimes in central New York and across the country, and it's time to take action. I'm asking federal authorities to force sellers to register gun parts, so that all purchasers go through background checks -- just like regular gun purchases.

Join me in calling for action to close this loophole that allows dangerous people to create and get access to guns, to stop more tragedies and more deaths from gun violence: Add your name to call for regulation of "ghost guns" right now.
