Good Evening,

It's Wednesday, June 28th.

Prigozhin’s Plans

Mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin planned to capture Russia’s military leadership as part of last weekend’s mutiny, Western officials said, and he accelerated his plans after the country’s domestic intelligence agency became aware of the plot, as the WSJ reports.

Canadian Smoke

Thick smoke from the seemingly endless Canadian wildfires has again blanketed large swaths of the United States, prompting warnings for residents to stay indoors with few signs of any immediate respite, as the NYT reports.

Central Bank Chiefs Warn Interest Rates Will Keep Rising

The world’s top central bank chiefs signaled their readiness to increase interest rates further and keep them high, as they warned tight labor markets are still pushing up wages and prices. The heads of the U.S. Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank and the Bank of England warned at a conference in Sintra, Portugal, that more action may be needed to bring inflation down towards targets of about 2 percent despite some economists’ predictions that further rate rises could trigger a recession or financial crisis, as the FT reports.
