While we came up short, I will never stop fighting for Virginians

Hala Ayala for VA Senate

John,

Last Tuesday night, I called my opponent and conceded the Democratic nomination for State Senate District 33. It was a long and hard-fought campaign, but the results made it clear that I was not able to secure the nomination. I congratulate Jennifer Carroll Foy on her primary victory and I pledge to do whatever I can to support her in November.

This campaign was never about me — it was about the everyday Virginians who make our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family. Growing up, my family was often on the knife’s edge barely making ends meet. As I listened to so many voters from around the district, I related to their concerns and their pain.

I got into this race because I understand the struggle that too many of them are facing right now and knew they needed someone they could trust to get our Commonwealth back on track.

So while I am disappointed in the outcome of this election, I will never stop fighting for those Virginians.

To all the dedicated supporters, tireless volunteers, and committed staff who spent countless hours knocking on doors, making phone calls, and believing that we can build a Virginia where all families can thrive: thank you. The results may not have been what you were hoping for, but the fight is never over.

— Hala
